What is the definition of being healthy? What does it mean to live a healthy lifestyle? For some, the definition of being healthy is exercising regularly. For others, it’s eating the right food. From experience, I can tell you that it’s a combination of both. When my dad passed away in 2009 to heart disease, I knew that I needed to make a change. At that time, I was 35LB overweight, and had a family history of heart disease and diabetes.
Changes needed to be made as soon as possible.
My kids were part of a karate school that also offered kickboxing for adults so I decided to join. Right off the bat, I began to notice how exercise was increasing my energy and shedding the fat like crazy. Then after about one month of exercising, I plateaued. I realized that exercising was not enough. It was then that my instructor had my keeping a journal of what I ate through out the day and I began to see how much “bad” food was keeping me from reaching my goals. I started to eat more fruit and vegetables as well as more “good” food. I ate more smaller meals until everything I was doing became a daily routine. It was considered a “healthy lifestyle.”
By the time my journey was complete with the karate school, I had lost over 40LB.
I was able to fit into clothes that I hadn’t worn since high school. I was very satisfied with my results. And it was then that I realized that, a healthy lifestyle was the only way I could make sure that I will always be here for my kids. So I set myself on that journey to continue the healthy lifestyle by including them in my exercises and eating healthy.
A Healthy Family = A Healthy, Happy Life
